Sumo Logic Pricing Explained: Credits, Flex and Scan Volume
Prices checked on vendor pages on Nov 8, 2026.
Sumo Logic is hard to price from the outside. It sells credits, not a rate card, and its paid plans are quoted. What it does publish is a Flex estimator that turns a usage profile into a price per TB scanned. This guide explains that model, what the numbers imply, and what we could not confirm.
Everything below comes from Sumo Logic's pricing page and docs, read on November 8, 2026.
The Short Version
- Flex has $0 ingest. Credits are consumed mainly on log data volume scanned.
- The estimator shows $3.14, $2.57, or $2.05 per TB scanned depending on profile, for North America (US).
- Essentials has a free trial. Enterprise Suite and the DojoAI add-on are Contact sales.
- The page lists unlimited users.
- The FAQ says spikes do not trigger overage charges.
What A Credit Is
Sumo Logic defines a credit as the unit of measure used to pay for products and capabilities. You license a pool of credits and spend it as you configure the platform. The docs say credits track data ingested and scanned, storage, and metrics over the contract period.
Under Flex, credits are consumed on the basis of log data volume scanned. That detail matters, because scans are not only searches you run by hand. The FAQ says data scanning happens whenever a query runs across log data, and lists Log Search, Dashboards, and Monitors as examples. Scan volume is the total storage volume scanned.
Sumo Logic also offers tiered ingest licensing, with Continuous, Frequent, and Infrequent tiers. The pricing page lists that as one licensing option and Flex, with search billed separately, as the other.
The Flex Estimator
The page asks you to pick an analytics usage profile and a region, then shows an estimated price per TB scanned. We read the figures for North America (US):
The more you scan per GB ingested, the lower the per-TB price. Sumo Logic's own trial documentation describes the same ratio: a 1 GB per day trial yields approximately 500 GB of search data volume daily.
The estimator's fine print matters. It states the MSRP assumes an annual commitment to Enterprise Flex, the ingest, retention, and profile settings shown, the New Logo Onboarding Acceleration promotion, and a US deployment region. Other regions may vary. The page does not break out retention charges, so we treat the figure as an all-in estimate and cannot confirm it.
Plans And Limits
Essentials also lists a price per GB, calculated for an annual Essentials commitment, an average of 1 GB of ingest per day, and a US region. The figure did not appear in the page text we could retrieve, so we do not quote one.
Free accounts get 1.25 credits a day, 7-day log retention, and up to 3 users. Trial accounts last 30 days, include 20 users, and apply the standard throttling mechanism if credits run out. Self-serve checkout takes a credit card for purchases up to $25,000.
Retention, Budgets, And Spikes
Retention carries a charge. The FAQ calls it nominal and says you are charged only on retention you configure for each source. No price is given.
Ingest Budgets cap the daily volume collectors send. The docs say they are available only on Enterprise Suite Flex accounts. The credits FAQ states there are no cap penalties, usage spikes are visible in the dashboard, and credit use is tracked in real time with no 24-hour delay.
The DojoAI Add-On
DojoAI is priced as Contact sales. The page lists the Mobot conversational interface with 10 prompts per user per day included, with DojoAI Credits adding pooled monthly capacity. A SOC Analyst Agent requires SIEM plus a DojoAI credit, and a Root Cause Agent is marked in development.
A Worked Month
Assumptions: logs only, US region, the first estimator profile ($3.14 per TB scanned), and 1 TB equal to 1,000 GB. We treat the per-TB price as all-in.
We read "500 to 750 scans per GB ingested" as 500 to 750 GB scanned for each GB ingested. That is our interpretation of the page's wording, backed by the trial figure above. The real driver is how often your dashboards and monitors run against stored data.
Where Sazabi Compares
Sazabi is AI-native observability and security. Sumo Logic also sells cloud SIEM and SOAR, which this comparison leaves out. We cover logs only, and we are a party to it.
Sazabi's Startup plan is $200 per 30-day cycle with 200 GB ingested and 50 GB scanned included, then $0.10 per GB for each. Retention is 30 days. It detects issues without hand-built monitors, investigates root cause, and hands the findings to your coding agent through MCP, CLI, or API.
The two models bill different units. Sumo Logic charges on scans, while Sazabi charges separately for ingest and scans, with scans assumed at 40% of ingest. Sazabi figures leave out issues past the included 20 and AI credits past 500. At 100 GB the two overlap. Past that, the estimator's scan ratios put Sumo Logic well above Sazabi's plan price, but your own scan ratio decides it. If your dashboards and monitors scan less than the profile assumes, a quote will come in lower, so ask for one.
You can run both side by side by adding Sazabi as another exporter in an OpenTelemetry Collector. See Sazabi pricing, the Sazabi vs Sumo Logic comparison, the Sumo Logic alternatives guide, and the OpenTelemetry integration.
When Sumo Logic Is Worth The Price
Sumo Logic suits teams that want logs, cloud SIEM, and automation in one contract, with unlimited users and no ingest meter. It is a fit when you can forecast scans and negotiate credits. If you need a published price you can model alone, expect to talk to sales first.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Sumo Logic cost?
Sumo Logic does not publish a list price for its paid plans. Essentials starts with a free trial and Enterprise Suite is Contact sales. The Flex estimator on its pricing page shows an estimated price per TB scanned, from $3.14 to $2.05 depending on usage profile.
What is Sumo Logic Flex pricing?
Flex is a credit-based model with $0 ingest. Credits are consumed on the volume of log data scanned by searches, dashboards and monitors, plus storage and metrics. Sumo Logic describes it as unlimited data ingest.
Does Sumo Logic charge overage fees for spikes?
Its FAQ says no. Usage spikes show in your account dashboard but do not trigger overage charges, and credit use is tracked in real time.
Does Sumo Logic charge per user?
The pricing page lists unlimited users. Free accounts are limited to 3 users and trial accounts to 20, according to the Flex docs.
